(probably) by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz
I think it's beautiful... it is so true, that it is love, and nothing else, that will move a heart. It's God's love that's pulled me through... and it's in His love that I've found truth and justice, even in a world that seems to have neither.
A Cristo crucificado
No me mueve, mi Dios, para quererte
el cielo que me tienes prometido;
ni me mueve el infierno tan temido
para dejar por eso de ofenderte.
Tú me mueves, señor; muéveme el verte
clavado en una cruz y escarnecido;
muéveme ver tu cuerpo tan herido;
muévenme tus afrentas y tu muerte.
Muéveme, en fin, tu amor, y en tal manera
que aunque no hubiera cielo, yo te amara,
y aunque no hubiera infierno, te temiera.
No tienes que me dar porque te quiera,
pues aunque cuanto espero no esperara,
lo mismo que te quiero te quisiera.
To Christ on the Cross
I am not moved, my God, to give you love
by thoughts of heaven that you've promised me;
nor am I moved by thoughts of dreaded hell
for that alone, to cease offending thee.
You are what moves me, Lord; I'm moved to see
you on a cross and mocked with every breath;
I'm moved to see your body racked with wounds;
I'm moved by your affronts and by your death.
I'm moved, in sum, by love for you so great
that I would love you were not heaven there,
and I would fear you, if there were no hell.
You need give me no prize to love you thus,
for even if what I hope I hoped not,
as I now love you I would love you still.

Checando tarjeta
Ok... let's see.... now that I've wasted what little time I had today (writing emails!!) I will proceed to use the 20 mins I have left to check in real quick.
Family: WOOHOOOO!!! Baby baby baby baby… what can I say? Life is great. Life is beautiful. Let us be merry and be glad in it. Hehe…
Hm… Grandma did get my messages! She is doing well. Grandpa is doing well too. Just his eyes. He’s gonna have to have surgery, again, soon.
School: AAAAGHHHH!!! It will kill me this time!!! *sniff* Darn thing will finally beat me! : P It’s the second week into the semester and I am already on the verge of a nervous attack.
Yesterday, Mom called and asked how I was doing. Intenté sonreír y le dije: “Bueno, pues ya terminé.” Su respuesta fué, “Ay, flaca, más bien terminó contigo.”
I tried to smile and said, “Well, I’m done with school [for the day, which is implied in the verb we use in Spanish].” Her response was “Awe, sweetie, I think it is done with you [it’s finished you]” I do wonder what it was in my voice that made her say that… well, no, actually. Don’t want to know. Hehe… ahem… ok. Typing that somehow helped.
Jeje… but no, School WILL NOT beat me. I will keep my GPA up : ) ! OH!! And some grad schools have actually (finally!) sent emails about having received application packages. Yaay! Man.. such a slow process… it’s taken forever to get all of that stuff in. and it feels great to get some news : )
Minino: 1234…5678… [hold! and.. 123..]El Minino está muy bien, gracias a Dios. I’ve come to the conclusion that he has the most amazing hands in the world. He’s doing pretty well. He’s very happy he got his funding and a TA position. And I'd say classes are treating him well so far. We went to an international dinner the other day, and I realized he might actually know more international students than me! Half his econ class was there and only two or three of my friends went that night. It was fun. He's invited me to his sister’s wedding this summer. More fun stuff : )
Reading: eh… hehe. Not reading. Well, if Chaucer or Volpone or Cabeza de Vaca count, then gosh… I’ve been reading. Very strange characters… all three of them. Lol… I wonder what future generations will think of us!

¡ Bebé !
Bravo por Sarai!!
My sister's baby was born today!! I have not met him yet, but I was on the phone when he was born… He is so full of energy! He was amazingly loud for a newborn... and quite unusually, he was born with his eyes wide open. He seemed strikingly ready for the world. He obviously inherited his mother’s attractiveness, and he might have also inherited her intense personality. My Mom said he was big, thin but long; and that he had lots of very dark hair and very black eyes.
Mom was my eyes through the entire night. Dad called me first to tell me it would happen today, and then Mom kept me updated. It all went well, just as planned. Both Sarai and the baby are perfectly healthy. Sarai’s husband remained conscious…barely : ) . Mom and Dad, Abi, Misael, and the Cruz Nava family were present. A perfect night, from what I was told. They all sounded very happy -- very nervous, and some perhaps a little pained, but very, very happy. I am overwhelmed. Life is a beautifully complex thing…

It’s the last stretch… almost done. Grad school isn’t quite solved yet, which worries me some. But not much. I think I am more worried about my lack of worry than I am about the lack of an acceptable conclusion to all of this.
But on a happier note, Christmas with my family was great, as usual. My sister’s baby will soon be born. And I had a wonderful, very relaxing weekend. Had a productive day today, did most of my errands, and now I am ready for school.
The plan for the semester is to be constant and remain organized throughout the semester. I am sure I will have the inevitable moments of chaos, but I want to make the best effort to enjoy this semester. And I only enjoy myself when I am pleased with my performance. Wow… can’t believe I wrote that. But I do need some sense of accomplishment. Why, then, do I not worry about Grad school as much?
Well, in any case, I hope this entry will remind me not to torture myself and just get things done. Get it done, and absorb as much as possible in the process. Enjoy.
And Minino. Well, he’s the jazz in my life. It is impossible not to enjoy jazz.
